What Does The Haumana Have To Say About Hula?!?

A Sweet Name

" I love the name Ke Ali'i O Ka Malu. It is one of the sweetest names for the Lord. You can make friends so easily because we treat each other like family. The kumu and kokua help you a lot. If you need extra help they don't make it so obvious and you get tutoring. They treat every student the same. I feel happy & safe at this hula halau. "

'Auli'i S., 'Opio Class

You're Treated Like Family

" I LOVE being in this hula group. Everyone treats you like family. There's NOT one time I felt hurt in this halau. Every class is just so fun. I'm so glad I joined this hula group and I think you should join it too! "

Leilani B., 'Opio Class

Confidence, Enthusiasm & Pride

" Joining Halau Ke Ali'i O Ka Malu has been and continues to be a great experience for our entire 'ohana. Joining hula has given me a chance to bond with my daughter. Before Destanie began dancing hula, she was shy and very self-conscious. Being a part of this hula 'ohana has allowed her to open up and become more outgoing. Her father and I love the confidence and enthusiasm she has while she dances. Destanie takes pride in dancing hula and she looks forward to attending class at the end of the school week. Kumu Derek and his 'ohana are the most loving and humble people I know. We are very thankful to have them in our lives. We totally love Halau Ke Ali'i O Ka Malu! "

Mother of Destanie L., Keiki Class

" I love being a member with Ke Ali'i O Ka Malu because classes are fun, and learning how to chant & dance hula has never been this easy. I love Kumu's way of teaching in a stress-free environment because like Kumu has said 'Learning hula should be a fun experience enjoyed by all'. And I love the the website, the website keeps me informed with news/upcoming events, and videos so I can practice at home. Mahalo Kumu....You're awesome! "

Tuesday M., Teen/Adult Class

Kumu Is Nice

" I love the fact that there is a website because there are videos on there to refer to if I forget my dance and announcements to keep me informed. I also love the NICE kumu (I have to... he's my daddy). Ke Ali'i O Ka Malu is the best halau I have been in!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! "

Leikamaha'o N., 'Opio Class

Keiki-Friendly Teachings

" I love having new Hula sisters. I especially love the videos on the website because I can practice my hula at anytime. Our 'ohana appreciates Kumu and his 'ohana for teaching our keiki to embrace our Hawaiian culture through song and dance in a 'keiki friendly', loving, and Godly way. "

Anuhea K., Keiki Class

Kumu Is CRAZY!!!

" Kumu's love for God, family and hula shines through His teaching. We just love his beautiful and unique style of hula. His craziness always puts a smile on our faces and makes us feel loved and welcomed. And, the keiki just love their Kumu! Classes are taught in a positive environment and Student Guidelines are applied at all times. Also, the hula website is so cool and awesome. It provides everything we learned in class and more! Haumana have full access to the website where we can log in to practice, learn, and grow in every area of hula on our own free time, 24/7. Kumu provides the best for his haumana. His heart, hard work, dedication and excellence is evident through his teaching, ‘ohana and Halau Ke Ali'i O Ka Malu. I LOVE our hula ‘ohana! Kumu, U Da Best. Mahalo Ke Akua!!! I am La'akea S. and I approve this message. (lol) "

La'akea S., Teen/Adult Class

Invigorating Yet Relaxing

" At first I was afraid to learn hula as I am “old and out of shape”. But, when I got to class, Kumu Derek taught us in such an invigorating yet relaxing atmosphere that I forgot about my fears. The hour and a half class time passes much too quickly with all the fun we have. I enjoy learning the Hawaiian language and dance, plus I get a good workout! Kumu, the Kokua and my hula brothers and sisters are always welcoming and supportive. Also, the halau website is easy to access from anywhere and a lot of us practice along with the videos on the website during the week while we’re at work. I’m so glad I joined Ke Ali’i O Ka Malu that I’ve enrolled my daughter in the Keiki class for the 2013 Spring session! "
